This pretty pink tee features a woodcut of a woman said to be Agnes Waterhouse. Agnes is often mistakenly said to be the first person executed in England under the ‘Witchcraft Act’. This dubious honour actually belongs to Elizabeth Lowys, executed in 1565.
The woodcut appears under the word ‘POPULAR’, as Agnes Waterhouse’s story became well known following a leaflet produced detailing her trial in Chelmsford in 1566. Agnes was tried alongside her daughter Joan, and neighbour Elizabeth Francis.
